03 / Directing & producing

Make the machinery disappear.

Directing, producing and organisational leadership built around a simple proposition: rigorous structures should give artists more freedom, not less.

Stage Company

An independent theatre company built from the ground up.

Chris led artistic planning, season development, budgeting, fundraising, casting, marketing, front of house, production delivery and governance—often in spaces that had to be transformed into theatres. Directing practice

Clarity creates permission.

01

Begin with action

Find what each person is doing to another person. Let interpretation emerge from playable behaviour.

02

Protect the ensemble

Build a room in which specificity, disagreement and experiment can coexist without fear.

03

Design the conditions

Align schedule, resources, language and responsibility so attention can remain on the work.
